vision & mission
The Vision for the National Museum of Hip-Hop is to become the global authority for archival, institutional, and historic Hip-Hop Culture content. There is no shortage of the aforementioned content on the internet, but there is no [institution] which offers it all in one place-until now.
The Mission of NMoH is to preserve and interpret Hip-Hop Culture by providing accessible authoritative content and education to an audience ranging from youth to scholars worldwide.
Society, generally, has a skewed view and false understanding of what Hip-Hop Culture truly is and represents. The negativity surrounding a select few rappers coupled with the constant propagation by the mainstream media has helped to perpetuate this negative connotation of Hip-Hop. NMoH hopes to eventually reverse the above by presenting the world with an institutional interpretation of hip-hop’s true essence: education, cultural preservation, and self-expression through art; the principles that hip-hop was founded on.
Hip-Hop is currently a global culture celebrated by fans in over 150 countries around the world. Hip-Hop fans are emotional and very loyal to the culture of hip-hop. NMoH is charged with the official preservation of the Culture; this is something that fans from all over the world would want to participate in and have access to. Accordingly, another significant aspect of the NMoH Mission is making its content globally accessible. NMoH represents a worldwide hip-hop fan-base and as such, is committed to ensuring that all fans, around the world, are able to partake in the content, products and services offered by the National Museum of Hip-Hop.
