Special Events

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is a component of the Special Events Department, which is responsible for executing concerts, red carpet affairs, award ceremonies, performances and fundraisers.  Events for the upcoming season will include:

  • An intro-to-the-world fundraising event for the current year.  Expected crowd of about 600 and will include a mix of celebrities, Hip-Hop artist and record executives as well as high-level politicians.
  • A series of concerts celebrating the various eras and elements of Hip-Hop Culture.  Concerts will hold about 4,000 people and include VIP dinners, cocktail lounge and exotic car raffles.
  • Various traveling exhibitions including handcrafted stone and clay MC legends, graffiti canvasses, break dancing shows and DJ shows.
  • 1st ever annual Hall of Hip-Hop Induction Ceremony
  • 1st ever annual Hip-Hop red carpet Academy Awards Ceremony
  • Volunteer Enrichment Series-a series of events that celebrate volunteers from around the New York Metro Area

Interns will gain extensive experience in the following areas:

  • How to balance the needs of the artists, celebrities, staff, sponsors, patrons and volunteers to maximize fundraising and consumer experience
  • Planning-long and short term
  • Public presentation skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desire to work with others

  • Flexibility, curiosity, tenacity
  • Dependability & responsibility
  • Familiarity with MS Office, the internet and the ability to pick up new programs quickly

COMPENSATION:

Internships for the National Museum of Hip-Hop are not paid but offer a great deal of hands on experience.  College credit is available upon request and school approval.  Interns will gain the following benefits:
