Community Programming

The Community Programming (CP) volunteer will work within the External Affairs Division, and directly in the office of the Programs Manager. Tasks for the CP volunteer/intern include, but are not limited to:

1. Maintaining and updating the community endorsements database

2. Working with the staff of the company to further develop community relationships

3. Working closely with internal and external constituencies of the institution

4. Planning and implementation of NMoH community programs

5. Maintaining and updating social community networks

6. Working closely with children and teens from various communities

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide assistance in the planning and execution of museum-wide special programs for donor cultivation, stewardship, and recognition, and ensure that the National Museum Hip-Hop continues to be viewed as a worthy focus of charitable giving and other forms of support.  Collaborate with colleagues in the Marketing Dept. in order to maximize potential and meet program goals and objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Participate in strategies, opportunities, potential conflicts, and other issues related to the production of programs
  • Maintain highly professional standards and procedures for production of programs
  • Serve as central museum resource for matters of institutional protocol
  • Responding to community support requests via e-mail and telephone
  • Prepare pre- and post-program analysis
  • Assess opportunities & make recommendations for improving service to constituencies
  • Prepare program reports, providing analysis and recommendations for future actions and improvements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of social and museum procedures of protocol and etiquette
  • Computer skills with ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Ability to address complex issues
  • Ability to listen carefully to address the concerns and interests of the community
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Attendance required for evening and weekend programs

COMPENSATION:

Internships for the National Museum of Hip-Hop offer a great deal of hands on experience. College credit is available upon request and school approval.  Interns will gain the following benefits:
